Paid surveys are an incentivized research tool used by companies, brands, researchers, universities, and more, in order to gather information about a specific target audience or get feedback on a product, service, or marketing strategy.
Because the survey responses brands receive help them make more money in the long run, regular people around the world (like you and I) can earn rewards like free products, gift cards, and even cash for participating (i.e. sharing our opinions).
Example: A laundry detergent brand might run a survey and distribute it to grocery shoppers/laundry doers to gather ideas on how to improve their product offerings.
What Are Survey Sites?
Survey sites are the main distributors of paid surveys. They help brands and companies get their surveys out to eligible survey takers and they also distribute the rewards/payments to compensate survey takers for their time.
That said, not all survey sites are the same. There are three main types:
Type #1: Survey sites run by market research companies
- Examples: Prolific, PaidViewPoint, LifePoints, and many more.
These survey sites source surveys directly from companies/brands/researchers/etc. themselves. This typically results in more reliable surveys (i.e. fewer disqualifications) and higher pay. However, there may be fewer surveys to choose from on these types of platforms, so signing up for multiple sites is a good idea.
Type #2: GPT sites with paid surveys
GPT (Get Paid To) sites host a variety of money-making opportunities, including paid surveys. However, their paid surveys are typically sourced from a third-party market research company (e.g. TheoremReach, YourSurveys, etc.). That means you're going through two different middlemen, which usually means lower pay. Many users report higher disqualifications from surveys on GPT sites as well.
This all being said, GPT sites can still be a good option. They usually have a higher volume of paid surveys available and some people even report having a better experience with GPT site surveys vs. survey sites. Be sure to test them for yourself!
Type #3: Micro job sites with paid surveys
- Examples: Clickworker, MTurk, and more.
Micro job sites are similar to GPT sites in that they offer a variety of ways to earn money, but unlike GPT sites, micro jobs are typically posted directly to these platforms by businesses, individuals, and researchers. Surveys aren't always the most common on these types of sites, but they can be found, and they often pay well.
Are Paid Surveys Legit?
Yes, paid surveys are legit. And you really can make money doing surveys online.
However, as goes with most things on the internet, the survey space isn't exactly scam-free. For that reason, it's important to do your research before signing up for a site/app and handing over your email address and other personal info.
If you're using a new site that's not mentioned here on surveyhub, you'll have to be especially careful (you can also contact us if you have a question about a particular site).
To spot scams, look for obvious red flags like:
- Missing privacy policy or terms and conditions – Every legit site will have these.
- Get rich quick claims – Any site claiming to be able to replace your full-time job or pay you tons of money for minutes of work is a scam.
- Obvious grammar errors – Even legit sites sometimes have spelling mistakes and other typos, but if a site has a ton of really obvious mistakes, it's probably a scam.
- Sign up fees – Any survey site that wants you to pay to sign up is either a scam or a ripoff.
- Asking for a butt-load of personal information – If a survey or survey site is asking you for personally identifiable info like your email, SSN, phone number, and other sensitive info, and they don't explain why or how they're going to use this info (that should be detailed in their privacy policy), just back out.
Are Paid Surveys Safe?
Even with legitimate survey sites, safety levels vary. What you're comfortable with all depends on how protective you are over your information.
If you're a Ron Swanson type that likes to be as off the grid as possible, survey sites aren't going to suit your fancy. Almost every site and paid survey out there will ask you to share, at the least, non-personally-identifiable demographic information like your gender, postal code, profession, living situation, marrital status, and other things of that nature.
Other sites or surveys may ask for your name, birth date, street address, phone number, and other potentially identifiable info.
You'll always have the choice of what you want to share. But, the less you're willing to share, the fewer surveys/survey sites you'll be able to participate in.

How Do Survey Sites Work?
Survey sites — no matter the type — all work pretty similarly.
Here's the general process of becoming a survey taker and making money:
- Create an account – You'll typically need an email and a password. I'd recommend creating a separate email address specifically for paid surveys in order to stay organized and keep your main inbox spam free. This also helps you stay more private.
- Fill in your profile – This is where your demographic information comes into play. Most sites will ask you to fill out a profile of different questions. They'll use your answers to match you with relevant surveys, so be sure to be honest and accurate. You can (and should) update your answers when things change.
- Take surveys – Most sites and apps will have a variety of surveys to choose from, often with estimated times and payouts listed beforehand. Pick one, read the questions carefully, and answer honestly. If there are no surveys available at the time of signing up, check back in a bit, watch your email inbox for survey notifications, or head over to another survey site.
- Cash-out – Some survey sites have a minimum account balance you'll have to reach before you can request a payout, others allow you to cash out as soon as you earn a cent. Once you're able to withdraw your earnings, check out the rewards or payments section of the site, and pick what you want. How Much Do Paid Surveys Pay?
Wondering if paid surveys are going to make you rich? Unfortunately, probably not.
Here's why:
- Most survey sites just don't pay enough money. In our findings, most survey sites pay $1-$2/hour, with some of the better ones paying up to $7-$8/hour (site-specific stats below).
- There aren't enough surveys to go around. Even if they did pay a lot, there wouldn't be enough surveys for your specific demographic to supply you with a full-time income.
Bottom line? Surveys are simply a way of making some extra money while you're bored browsing the internet or watching TV. They're not meant to earn you a full-time income or make you rich.
That said, there are some successful survey takers who earn several hundred dollars a month filling surveys. But they usually have a specific strategy (stick around until the end of this article for some tips).
Even then though, if you're willing to work super hard, you're better off pouring your time and energy into a different side hustle — one with a better earning potential. There's an opportunity cost to filling paid surveys, so I'd only recommend them for when you don't feel like using your brain too much.

Tips: How to Earn More Money Filling out Surveys
As mentioned above, you most likely won't make a fortune filling out surveys. But, you can increase your earning potential with the right tips and a bit of strategy.
Here are 5 easy ways to improve your earnings and save time:
1. Stay Organized
This one is extremely important for saving both your sanity and your time:
- Create a separate “survey email” to sign up for the survey sites below.
- Organize all the sites you join into a bookmarks folder on your web browser.
With this setup, you can just go down the list of bookmarks or check your email for recent surveys.
Also, this will stop your primary email from getting flooded with surveys. Because trust me, once you join a few survey sites, your inbox will fill up FAST. (My survey email has over 13k emails right now)
2. Create a Schedule
Consistency is key with everything in life. Set aside a specific time every day to fill out surveys. Could be while eating breakfast or watching Netflix.
Note: Some surveys fill up really fast, so you'll still want to keep an eye on your email/sites throughout the day if possible.
3. Sign Up For Multiple Survey Sites
Start out with at least 2-3, but no more than 5 (that'll just be overwhelming).
Here's why having at least 2-3 sites in your roster is a good idea:
- Each site has a different collection of surveys and different demographics that they're looking for, so you never know which one will work best for you until you test!
- Multiple sites = multiple places to check for paid surveys. Less downtime.

Hey Peter. Unfortunately, VPNs are prohibited on most survey sites — using them will usually get your account banned. So yeah, there’s not a lot you can do about offers that are unavailable in your location :/
I like qmee, they take down surveys that are reported, they have no minimum payout, and they have fast results, most of the time for me I have to reload my paypal and it’s already in there in seconds.
Pinedale Research however you need to be careful with if you want to get in because they close down registration requests and don’t accept you for certain periods of the year.
InboxDollars though in my experience was terrible, they’re probably better now than what they were when I was using it but it got gradually harder the more you earned. The reviews that weren’t on the app store are terrible with claims of being a sweat shop, which isn’t a good view along with the same claims of the surveys getting dry at the halfway point, along with claims of paid reviews. Overall, I was getting $0.25-$0.50 Usd per survey and that wasn’t real great. The offers are good, unlike Qmee, which has claims of not actually giving you the rewards, so if you want to go with inboxdollars than you need to do offers otherwise you’re not going to be getting there through surveys.
According to eBizfacts.com however, the highest paying servey on their reviews was quickthoughts, giving $5-10 an hour which is incredible for taking serveys, although only being able to do 5 serveys per day max, but according to the screenshot they provided most of the surveys offered $1. I like the idea of using multiple sites because like mentioned above, if someone like myself used quickthoughts and maxed out their serveys they could then move on to some other servey website you like to maximize your earnings. I only have experience with lifepoints, qmee, and inboxdollars though and i have made $80-$100 I’m guessing in total. BTW, LIfepoints is good too, no issues with anything aside from possible declines.

the inboxdollar is still the same it took me 4 years to get 30 dollars from them and i had the chance to do more surveys every day but never was able to complete more than 2 or 3 a week from them and when i got it to 29.95 they stopped sending me surveys then i never got paid when i reached 30 dollars they told me that i needed 40 to cash out not 30 and told them i am from Wis USA so lost out thats ok i have better sites that pay me now

Hey Eric, appreciate it! Yeah, Earnably is one of the ones that doesn’t host any of their own surveys. Not all survey sites are like that though – I’d actually classify Earnably as more of a GPT site (I need to update this article to make that distinction more obvious). On the dedicated survey sites like Toluna, Pinecone, Vindale, Paidviewpoint, YouGov, etc. you’ll find more independent surveys.
Earnably is nice though just because it does bring together so many different offer/survey walls, and it’s got a low payment minimum. Hope this helps!

Hey Ezekiel, I’d honestly try figuring out a service you can offer as a freelancer to make money. That way you can get paid through whichever medium you decide on, and with the right skill, you’ll be able to make more money too.
That being said, a lot of the survey sites above are international (like ySense) so you could sign up in Nigeria. Then you can just look for ones that pay by check and deposit it into your Western Union account.
