    How Does Userbrain Work?

There are 2 types of users on Userbrain:

    • Testers
    • Customers

Here's how Userbrain works for each of those user types:

    How Userbrain Works For Testers

Userbrain testers can earn money by completing unmoderated usability tests on apps and websites. These tests involve screen and voice recording. After accumulating $10, earnings can be cashed out via PayPal.

    Key Points 🔑

    Work Type:Contract, Freelance
    Income Type:Active
    Work Schedule:Flexible
If you have been inactive for a long time, the platform may suspend, deactivate, or archive your account. Also, balances that remain on your account for over a year may be forfeit.
    Workplace:Remote
    Minimum Payout:$10
    Payout Options:PayPal
    Payout Speed:2-12 days
    Pros:
    • Interesting work and potentially high earnings.
    • You can retake your qualification test if you failed it.
    • Complete various types of tests without any experience or expertise necessary.
    Cons:
    • Inconsistent test availability.
    • Low earning potential due to fixed payment per recording and test availability depends on several factors.
    • Signing up to the platform is not always available.
    Tips:
    • Always express your thoughts aloud as you go through the test.
    • Never pretest a website or app before starting on the actual test. You will not receive paid tests in the future if you do.
    • Be sure that you complete all the assigned tasks and respond to all the provided questions.
Pros, cons, and tips are based on real Userbrain Tester reviews.

    Getting Started 🔢

Becoming a Userbrain tester is free, but there is occasionally a wait list, so you may not be able to start testing right away.

To sign up, head over to the platform's website and create an account. You can do this by signing up via email.

Before you can start working on actual tests, you will be required to take a qualification test. This takes around a week to be reviewed. If you don't pass the first time around, you can retake it.

Get started now: Sign up here.

    Earning Money 💵

You can earn money on Userbrain by completing usability tests on apps and websites. These tests come from various companies and developers and typically don't require any special technical knowledge.

During a test, you'll be required to:

    • Record your screen
    • Record your voice
    • Speak your thoughts aloud
    • Follow specific tasks

The platform conducts tests in English, German, and Spanish but it's important that you speak the language specified in the test instructions in case you're bilingual.

For each approved test, you'll earn $5. Most tests range from 5 to 20 minutes in length.

Once you complete a paid test, your video quality will be automatically rated by the system. Customers may also give you manual feedback based on whether you completed all tasks, answered all questions, consistently thought out loud, maintained high-quality and clear audio, and recorded the correct screen (for those using desktop). Getting high ratings will ensure that you will continue to receive new test opportunities regularly.

    Cashing Out 💰

Once you have at least $10 in your balance, you can cash out your Userbrain earnings via PayPal.

After cashing out, you can expect to receive your Userbrain payout in 2-12 days.

    How Userbrain Works For Customers

Userbrain customers can use the platform to create usability tests for websites and apps (from scratch or with templates), invite their own testers or recruit from the platform's global crowd, and then analyze test results with automated reports and more.

    Key Points 🔑

Costs / Fees:Varies. Plan starts at $45 per tester for the Pay As You Go plan.
    Minimum Purchase:$45
Payment Options:Credit Card, Direct Deposit, Invoice
    Pros:
    • Has various pricing and fully-customizable plans available depending on your needs.
    • Has great customer support.
    Cons:
    • Tester pool can either be too broad or too narrow, making it hard to specify a certain criteria or it's limiting other target tester demographics.
    • Quality of testers can be a hit or miss.
    • No interaction or any form of communication with testers that limits the ability to ask follow-up questions or clarify feedback in real time.

    Getting Started 🔢

To create your Userbrain customer account, head over to the Userbrain website and provide your email and a password.

Intro offer: A free trial, which includes two free tester recruits from the Userbrain crowd. Sign up here.

    Features 💼

Userbrain allows you to test websites, mobile applications, and anything else that you can provide a public link to (e.g. Figma prototypes).

    Available features include:

    • Test templates. Rather than create a test from scratch, you can get started quickly with a pre-made template.
    • Task types. When creating a test, you can choose from multiple task types including basic text tasks, multiple choice questions, written responses, and more.
    • Crowd tester pool. If you want to recruit from Userbrain's pool of testers, simply provide a criteria of your target audience and the platform will manage the recruitment process.
    • Invite your own testers. You can also invite your own testers if you have them. However, compensation will need to be done outside of the platform.
    • AI insights. Tester video responses are automatically processed by the platform's AI where you get auto-generated transcripts from each tester with time-stamped notes for annotation and tags labeling different response categories.
    • Automated test reports. Automatically receive detailed summaries and analysis of user test reports including metrics like task success rates, time on task, AI-assisted notes, and more.
    • Share your insights. Highlight and organize essential test insights by using clips and share them to your team via a link.

    Pricing 🏷️

There are currently four (4) pricing plans available in Userbrain, with free trials available for every plan and the annual plans priced at a 20% discount, listed as follows:

    • Pay As You Go: $45 per tester, no subscription needed. Does not allow you to invite your own testers, no automated testing, no AI insights or test reports.
    • Starter: $99/month (billed yearly) or $124/month. Includes 36 testers (annually) or 3 testers (monthly), with 1 admin, and 5 collaborators.
    • Pro: $299/month (billed yearly) or $374/month. Includes 120 testers (annually) or 10 testers (monthly), with 3 admins, and 20 collaborators.
    • Agency: $799/month (billed yearly) or $999/month. Includes 360 testers (annually) or 30 testers (monthly), with 20 admins, and 50 collaborators. The only plan that assigns you with a dedicated account manager.
    • Enterprise: Fully-customizable plan, simply reach out to Userbrain to discuss the details and pricing. Has unlimited admins and collaborators.

Any unused sessions will be rolled over to the next month or next year, depending on what type of plan you subscribed to.

In case you come up short with testers, you can buy credits to recruit more testers outside of your subscription. Each credit costs $45 and you can get free credits if you purchase a credit package of at least 30. This gives you one recording of one tester from Userbrain's pool of qualified testers.
