Our Editorial Shopkick Review
Is Shopkick Legit?
We believe Shopkick is legit. It was founded in 2009, has a legitimate business filing available online, and has helpful pages such as terms, privacy policy, and FAQs. While the app receives both positive and negative reviews online, the majority are positive and the negative ones aren't frequent enough to be a huge concern. Overall, we have no reason to believe Shopkick is a scam. Green flags:
- There is a legitimate filing for the platform available online.
- Has been around since 2009.
- Terms, Privacy Policy, and FAQs are all accessible on the website.
- Has positive reviews across the web.
Red flags:
- Has some negative reviews, but these aren't all that frequent considering the age and size of the platform.
Note: All research is done independently and could be wrong or change as new information is gathered. Please do your own due diligence.

The rewards rack up very quickly
A fantastic app that's definitely for more socially-inclined people with no problem receiving strange stares at the grocery store. A bit awkward to use in public, but very worth it with how many stores participate and how quickly money can be racked up between visits, especially to large retailers.
I have already recommended this app to several people. Unlike most other beermoney apps, it's genuinely fun and easy to use, and is something that can be done alone or with friends almost recreationally. As someone who's always loved scavenger hunts, this is one of the most enjoyable apps I have, and the rewards rack up very quickly due to the nature of the work and the fact it is virtually unlimited, with items refreshing for scanning very quickly.
- Honestly fun to do, as though it was a scavenger hunt
- Easy and quick to learn with a simple interface
- Wide variety of participating stores for item scanning
- While scanning is great, the feature for actually redeeming receipts is very limited and clunky
- Items occasionally do not scan properly or do not register, which can be frustrating when the exact product is right on the shelf and not validating
- Some items, especially magazines, can be extremely specific and difficult to find
- Walk-ins are often glitchy and do not always register
- Plan trips carefully to pace for time
- Don't be discouraged if you can't find items right away
- Look to match the exact packaging and labeling whenever possible
- Be honest with store staff if questioned about behavior--they're not asking to be malicious!
- Similarly, don't be afraid to ask store staff for item locations and help, especially with specialty items you may be unfamiliar with
- I sort all items by categories and try to address one category before moving onto the next. If it's a large store, like Target or Walmart, I try to pace myself and plan my route carefully in order to avoid getting worn out or having to backtrack for an item.
- Just in case, keep an eye on your receipts after purchase in case they match up with items on scanning list

I would recommend Shopkick to people who shop often and would like to earn gift cards for their efforts.
Overall my experience with Shopkick has been positive. I was referred to the app by one of my friends, so I liked that both of us earned points. It took me a shorter amount of time to earn my first reward than it has to the reward I am in the process of trying to get now. There are tiers of rewards, although it takes much more time to earn the higher amounts of gift cards that are $20 and up instead of the base amount of $10.
I like that Shopkick is mostly gift card-driven. I am not comfortable with sharing/linking my Paypal/credit card number across paid app platforms. The only exception to this is Shopkick allowing the user to link a card and earn points on a purchase. Also, I would rather redeem gift cards for places that I shop at frequently.
- Entering stores does not always garner walk-in points. There are two TJ Maxx locations that I have repeatedly not earned the points when I walk in. Shopkick allows the user to report the issue, although when I have, Shopkick has not awarded me the points despite it showing that I am, in fact, at the location.
- Waiting for walk-in points to show up usually takes a few days, which makes earning walk-in points more than once in a week not possible.
- Wait times associated with making purchases. During the holidays Shopkick ran a double points incentive. It took over 30 days for those points to reflect which is something that should be improved on their end. I could wait 14 days for the points to be credited to me, although 30 days is entirely too long.
- Refer friends
- Plan your shopping trips
- Don't put money towards items that you don't need just because the app is offering thousands of points that will accelerate to your goal.
- Make sure your battery is charged so you can enable Bluetooth when you walk into a store.
- Always utilize walk-in bonuses.
